My concentration focuses on expression. The human face is fascinating to me and the way that we show what we feel through the face is incredible. I want to demonstrate through my work that even with a small part of the face like an eye, we can show expression. Each piece is inspired by someone I know or an emotion I saw with either current events or in a movie. I copy the faces from my own pictures, but with a noticeable change to fit the situation of the emotion or they come from my imagination.

The whole idea behind my concentration is that there is a girl who experiences moments, memories with her elephant. The girl can sometime represent someone who is lonely, insecure, or happy. The elephant represents the girl’s strength, love, wisdom, and courage. All of the qualities that every one of us needs. Each piece has its own story and if you look close enough you can read it like a book.

My Concentration is on robots and other artificial life. I mostly focus on potential outcomes of a future where AI is common place. I thought it would be cool to examine all sides and issues of artificial life, more then the traditional "I, Robot" or "Terminator" apocalyptic scenarios. Also, robots are just super neat.

My concentration is titled "Just Keep Swimming" and represents the futility of life and persistence of the human race. The gradation of colors represents life as we know it.

For my
concentration, I am honoring the life of my grandpa. I am recreating old family
photos and incorporating color schemes to show the progression of his life.
Through my art, I want to be able create pieces that will help me mourn his passing.
Starting with a black and white piece, I then continue to introduce color to
show his personal growth, and once I reach the piece that represents his life
beginning to fade, I will start to fade out the colors, until again, I have a
black and white piece.

Concentration description
In my concentration, I focus on things that people won't do because they won't know how to deal with the outcome. Since this is a problem that affects everybody, I included a range of ages and ambiguous genders and ethnicities. The subject and what they are concerned with is painted in a warm color, and their environment is depicted in its contrasting cool color.

My concentration uses the simplicity of trees to display the complexity of emotions. Primarily, I have focused on the many different emotions that I have exhibited throughout the duration of my high school career. To best express its variety, I have used a variety of media and overall subject matter, while keeping the constant concept of trees and emotion. Many, if not all of my pieces have an emotional story behind them provoked by a social nature; therefore it is fitting to express them through tangible nature: trees.

My Concentration focuses on a different aspect than the typical portfolio. My concentration depicts a story line rather than a certain idea or focus, a story line of a young, middle class, little blonde girl who hasn't experienced much within her life. She is drawn to the enticing world of drugs and smoking, just simply because she wants a change in her monotonous life. Eventually it consumes her, and she loses herself and her dignity. In the end, inevitably, her addiction costs her her life. I chose this concentration because it is an issue very close to my heart, almost every single member of my family has become a victim to drug addiction, and some have even lost their lives because of it.

My Concentration is based on the concept of portraying water. Water is so routinely overlooked that we fail to appreciate it at its full value. We need water for survival, and water is were it all began. Here I depict water in its simplistic to most abstract forms. Water is fairly uncontrollable, and portraying it in art is difficult because of this. But with control and persistence I learned to make a fairly suitable concentration. My favorite pieces are Equanimity, and Poured Out, using colors and only black and white there has been a simple balance I have found in water.

My concentration focuses on the complexity of simplicity, utilizing simple images with a minimal color scheme and economical use of detail. Each piece is simplified enough to have a different meaning for each individual, making each piece accessible, and potentially personal. The unifying theme of each of the pieces is the warm color scheme, which creates a positive and happy tone, despite the subject of the piece. In addition, the use of various mediums combines contemporary themes with traditional topics, such as the female body and a human face portrayed in unexpected ways.

My Concentration is revolved around music and how it has helped me and many others through difficult situations. The theme music is shown in many ways to describe what I do when I am so or just how I felt at a certain point in time. Music is believed to help anyone at any certain time and it does, it inspires me to express how I feel and when I feel it. I believe Music plays an important role in anyone's life, that is why I chose to express it.

Concentration Write Up: Throughout high school I have observed several different characteristics about myself and my peers. In my concentration I work to capture some of those qualities. My concentration features both positive and negative human qualities but my goal was to depict them in a way that whether they were positive or negative was up for interpretation. My idea was to show the ambiguity of human characteristics.
Josie Maxwell's PortfolioFor lack of a deeper, more profoundly emotional theme, I have chosen to base my concentration on my interest in science, my knack for drawing animals, and my appreciation of irony. Have you ever stopped to think about how our relationships with animals got the way they are? We went from hiding in the trees and running from predators and filling a niche in our environments to keeping carnivores as pets and riding on the backs of herd animals and keeping tanks full of tropical fish in the middle of the desert for no logical reason. (Do we eat the fish? Do the fish protect us? No, we just feed them until we die, and then we get more fish.) Our modern, human-altered ecosystem is bizarre, and that is the message I hope to share through my artwork.
Judy Zhang's portfolioHumans are such a fascinating species. It is through incredible odds that something as advanced as humanity could have developed from the most minimalistic and simple life forms. With that in mind, it is no wonder that there are so many people who are absolutely exceptional. Through my concentration, I attempted to express admirable individual traits in different people.
The people featured are without a doubt, absolutely extraordinary. These people include those who have suffered the consequences of other’s actions and have pulled through; those who aspire to do great things; those who are selfless; and those who manage to light up the room with their breathtaking personalities. Each have a unique tale to tell, and I truly hope that I have captured that in my work. Some may have achieved significant prominence such as Einstein, Tolkien, or Lincoln. However, there they cannot even begin to represent all the distinctive people that grace the surface of the planet. By this statement, I am including everyone. Those without Wikipedia pages all have an aspect to them that no one else has had, has ever had, or will ever have: the individual unique traits, the knowledge they have acquired through circumstance, and their experiences. Eli veilleux's portfolioMy concentration pertains to emotions, values, and concepts that affect our everyday lives. Since my style is darker my work tends to focus on more negative emotions but there are a few positive ones that appear such as Freedom and Hope. I wanted to draw these things in my concentration because life is all we experience and all we know. My goal in these pieces is to provoke introspection into your own life, what you feel and live. As you view these pieces just know that to find what I would draw I asked myself "what is [insert title here]"

The central idea of my portfolio is revealing human nature and emotion through flowers. Flowers possess these vibrant qualities as well as shapes and sizes and are used for any occasion whether romantic or sorrowful. I have always been in love with flowers and just think of them as small, albeit, powerful miracles. With my concentration I hope to reveal my love of flowers in not just portraying joy in my pieces, but a range of human emotions and qualities.

My Concentration demonstrates both the positive and negative relationships that coexists among humans and nature. Only for the past few decades did humans realize all the harm they have done to nature but in actuality, we still do more harm to it than help. As a naturalist, I attempted to tell a story through my concentration pieces: starting with the appreciation of nature, then the merciless harm and ruin, regret, and ending with future's failed attempt of recreation of the ruined. In most pieces, machinery or civilization represents the humans while animals and wildlife represent the nature.
